We have a ton of videos compiled from vhs recordings called Dayley Family Firsts. It’s a fun compilation of first baths, first ball game, first pets together etc. …honestly it’s been many years since we’ve added to the list of firsts. Not allot of new things happen in your older years. The phrase “been there and done that” comes to mind. But little did we know this past year we would add a bunch of firsts to our list for Jim.
He started seeing a doctor on a regular basis just for checkups; so we experienced first colposcopy, first eye doctor appt. (Can you imagine at age 65?). That was fun to hear all his questions about the equipment and wanting to know what everything was for and what function it performed. I guess the mechanic in a guy never really subsides! His eye dr (Heiner) is awesome and spent so much time with him (turns out he did need glasses but just barely) stinker still has great eye sight.
Well today we add a new first… First infusion!
It was a little bit of a roller coaster getting the diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Then to find out about a drug protocol that could help slow down the progress. Then to learn nobody in the Treasure Valley could administer the drug. Until St Al’s stepped up and here we are in the hospital ready for his first infusion of Kinsula.
It’s a big infusion center with lots of divided areas for patients. I would say over 20.
We were in room 12 today.
The nurse reported he has big juicy veins which they love!
Yep, they flirt with him right in front of me haha.
If he responded any differently than his wonky smirk it might bother a jealous wife. But I don’t think he even notices what is happening. I’m sure his mechanic mind is evaluating and analyzing the process.
We plugged in a show (Marshall’s) he’s been wanting to catch up on. And he sat back and relaxed and when the benedryl kicked in he started to relax a little more.
He tolerated the drug well and it was fairly painless and he even said “this is easy peasy”. The staff was great! Lisa kept him informed and compfy.
We’re ready for the next 7 months scheduled out with MRIs every two weeks inbetween to check for Auria (brain bleeds).
One Down!
No longer our first rodeo!
I’m so happy this guy is my strong silent mysterious man for eternity.
